Project 1
The thinking skill for this project was contextualization. This meaning building context to support a topic or claim. For this project I wanted to focus on police. There is a huge stigma that goes around about law enforcement and the way society perceives them. Throughout the years many events have led to the creation of this idea we have on police. We are told to try our best to avoid police because we associate them with jail which is looked down upon. I wanted to create a project to highlight the struggles of everyday officers that most people wouldn’t notice. I wanted to create a project around the idea of misunderstood officers or people that are on law enforcement. I began to think a lot about how certain world events has changed and influenced the way that we view officers. The other day I got pulled over and I noticed I began to feel more nervous than I should’ve. It came to my mind that the officer more than likely is feeling the same way that I am pulling up to a car window to the unexpected. I realized that a lot of the views on officers we have today have been twisted to something bad when in reality they are people too only trying to protect and do their jobs. I wanted to build context around the idea of what causes our negative outlooks on individual here to protect our communities.
English
For English portion of this project I created a podcast where I interviewed my school police officer about her experiences doing her job. I wanted to highlight questions like what are certain things people don’t know that she would like people to know. I also want to talk about how certain past events has shined a negative light on police and how that has affected any aspect of their jobs. To wrap all this information up I want to compile a website formatted product including the interview links and my research. I wanted to create context around the idea of what it is like to be a police officer, the purpose of there jobs and taking a look into what really affects the societal stigma that is police officers are "bad".
Art
For this project I wanted to depict the idea of society being split into two between law enforcement and citizens. There are many people in society and i wanted to showcase that with the background I chose for this project. The reasoning behind the balance is that police hold more weight on their shoulders than we will ever know. The puzzle pieces however show that not all of our experiences fit with everyone else's but we all have a "puzzle piece" with a story to tell. Police officers are human just like everyone else and their jobs don't make change that simple fact. We as a society should realize this and work towards breaking that societal stigma when it comes to police. At the end of the day they are here to protect.
