Project description
The death penalty has always been a subject of debate. Between morality and effectiveness, the topic continues to spark controversy. The death penalty is given to those who have committed the most heinous of crimes and in other countries is given as a punishment for murder. However, viewing it from a moral perspective , punishing the act of killing with death does not seem to solve the standing issue. In fact it makes no sense. Although the person may have committed the act of murder following that up with more murder is inhumane when the world is trying to create a less violent society for future generations. Not only does it repair nothing ,it is also more pain for the family of the committed as well as the family of the victim. It brings no closure nor does it repair the pain already caused. Suffering in jail for the crimes they have committed to some people may seem as too little of a punishment, to others it is a way for the committed to think about their actions and why they are in that cell. Death seems as a easy way out. The worst punishment is to live with what they did instead of being granted the mercy of death for such cruel crimes. That is a more effective punishment. There are some instances though that deserve the severity of the death sentence. I believe it is important to determine what those cases are to avoid sentencing the innocent. The project topic was reasoning and here is why I think the death penalty should be banned.
English
For English I created a letter in which I explained that the death penalty should be banned. Although the death penalty is the highest form of punishment which only is given to those who have committed heinous crime, it isn't right. In this letter I gave my reasoning as to why I think the death penalty should be banned while also providing different perspectives that others might not have thought of. I included morality views, costs, family perspectives to ensure my reasoning is entirely thought out by readers.
Art
Lady justice is a statue that stands for equal justice under law. Relating to the death penalty, justice under law should be justice for all. I believe one should suffer for the acts that they commit. If one commits murder they should be living with the fact that killed someone in violence. The death penalty is not only returning death with more death but is also a quick easy way out. Being punished and sentenced in jail is more effective than a death penalty. For my project I believed that lady justice was a perfect example of fair and equal justice that should better the world not create more division.
